This route covers hundreds of miles between Cleveland, OH, and Selkirk, NY. It is CSX's premium route to the Northeast from Chicago. Amtrak also operates its Empire Service along this line, among other services.
Several major terminals exist along the route, including Cleveland, Buffalo, and Syracuse, NY. Buffalo, NY, is particularly busy due to its interchange traffic with Canada, as well as the Norfolk Southern crossing at the Draw Bridge.
Most trains undergo crew changes in Buffalo, while others swap crews in Cleveland or Syracuse. Trains that change crews in Cleveland are marked with "Cleveland Fuel," while those swapping in Buffalo are designated with "CP 433 & 434 swap."
Amtrak's P048 and P049 both change crews at Depew Station in Buffalo.
