Schism - Alto Saxophone

This piece's takes inspiration from the 'Great Schism' of 1054, when the Catholic Church divided into Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic. The chant-like material provides the most conspicuous example of this influence. which, throughout the piece, splits the saxophone in two opposing groups, both in register and character of material. This piece, therefore, explores the concept of a soloist performing multiple simultaneous layers, giving more of the effect of a duet, trio etc.
