This route is Norfolk Southerns main line into from Chattanooga, TN into Georgia and Norfolk Southerns Brosnan Hump Yard. The route goes through the very busy Atlanta terminal, where crews get changed, trains terminate and originate, and the Amtrak Cresent makes their way through. In Atlanta there are lots of transfers to other yards, CSX trains and more! Then the line spilts between the East End district off to Birmingham which follows Amtrak's Cresent service. The large Whitaker Intermodal yard is where most Intermodal trains work and some originate and terminate. Some of the Intermodal trains off of the East End have a drop for the Whitaker Intermodal Yard which is done at Cobb siding.
