This training module helps to explain why Canadian communities need to take an alternative approach to the development and marketing of their tourism industry and commit to the development of an official Tourism Development Plan that will help guide them in that effort.
The approach explains the difference between a product-oriented approach and a marketing-orientated approach. Subjects covered explain how the tourism industry differs significantly from other industries and can require a multi-dimensional, multi-lateral and multi-tiered approach, with a parallel development strategy thrown in for good measure.
This module also discusses the need for a Tourism Development Construction Strategy that takes into consideration Material Costs, Cost Sharing options, Recycling Salvaged Construction Material, the use of In-Kind Services and Volunteer Manpower Resources. This segment also looks at Funding and how the process helps to build confidence and trust among all stakeholders.
A key component of this module is the Defining of Community Human Resource Assets and Strategies. Topics include the use of Federal/Provincial/Territory Government Services, Municipal/Regional Government Services, as well as Local Businesses, Academic Institutions and Community Organizations. Identifying key general membership prospects and executive committee prospects as part of the overall discussion.
This leads to the need to discuss HR Recruitment Strategies, including a Motivational Needs Strategy that identifies human resources that are achievers, affiliators and power seekers. The ultimate HR goal is to Recruit the Expertise needed for important positions such as Product/Brand Development, Advertising & Promotional, Management Accounting, Capital Project Engineer, Wildlife/Fish/Bird/Plant Management or Retail, Resort & Restaurant Assessment expertise.
Also included in this module is a definition of the Stakeholder/Partnership roles and the development of strategies and tactics for both key tourism players. Abstracts are provided for both groups and key categories within each group are discussed in detail.
